I started writing an entry about coworkers but remembered that people have gotten fired for that.
So what I want to know is how people get ahead by coasting on the backs of others? How does a person like this slip through the cracks? There’s a difference between delegating and being all out lazy. If you want me to do YOUR job, give me a portion of YOUR salary! It doesn’t take people long to catch on to a person like that. After a while they start avoiding this type of person at all costs. So the ‘delegator’ moves on to the next unsuspecting new hire, and the cycle restarts.

Why do the work when you can get someone else to do it for you?? But this can backfire if they choose the wrong person’s work to coast off of. On the other hand, this works extremely well if the person is also smoozing a lot. I can get you to do my work for me, then I smooze and I end up getting the promotion. The corporate jungle is no joke.

There’s a woman at my spot that gets over like a fat rat. Comes in late, leaves early, takes long lunches and delegates about 99% of her work. How does she get away with it? She has the bosses snowed. She bakes cookies 3 times a week, always brings in birthday cards and gifts (even for the maintenance staff), visits folks in the hospital, etc. Not that any of those things are bad, but you can tell that it’s not genuine. She does it to secure her ability to not do her job. Gotta hand it to her though - sweet hustle!

I work with a woman JUST like that!!!! The bad part is that I am the sucka being taken advantage of. She was my replacement when I took a new job in the same office. Now, she doesn’t make any attempt to learn her job, because I know it like the back of my hand. Calls come in that needs troubleshooting? She asks me for the answer. I have begun giving her the “get out my face” look though. The really bad part is that she works two jobs! She sleeps on this one (midnight shift) and then goes to her day job and does the same thing. She even told the people at her day job that she is narcoleptic, so that they don’t trip on her when they see her sleeping during the day. SMH
